Dr. Laura Berk, Psychologist
Dr. Laura Berk is a registered Psychologist in clinical and counseling psychology with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She works with adults and adolescents ages 13 years and older. Dr. Berk obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from York University in Toronto, Ontario in 2010. She also earned a Master of Arts in Psychology at York University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto. She has completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). She has a special interest in assisting individuals to understand and work through their distressing emotions.
Dr. Laura Berk completed her clinical training in the Adult Day Treatment Program at North York General Hospital, Adult Mental Health Unit of Markham Stouffville Hospital and Family Services York Region. During her training, Dr. Berk has worked with diverse populations providing psychotherapeutic services for a wide range of presenting problems including anxiety, depression, infertility, sexuality, personality disorders, obsessions and compulsions, trauma-related conditions, work-related injuries, learning disabilities, grief and loss. Dr. Berk is also a Professor at Seneca College teaching a wide variety of courses including Human Development, Theories of Counselling, Behavioural Approaches to Counselling and Interpersonal Communication.
